The enchanted tale

Once upon a time, there was a virtuous lady, Cynthia, who longed to find her dream sweetheart. Since young, friends often jeered at her as they always thought her as not demure but actually pretentious and desperate for a man. There were some who had crushes on her but she knew that the relationship was not going to last long, as they were either flirts or people who liked her physical appearance and nothing else. She wanted badly someone who truly understood her, someone who really care for her and someone who loved her.

One day, she thought her lifelong dream was coming true when she met Francis. Her first impression of him was that he was someone so different from the others. He was charismatic and a true gentleman. She first met him on a bus when she dropped her documents accidentally. Without any hesitation, Francis had helped her to pick them up. That had convinced her immediately that he was a kind and caring man. After picking them up, he even warmly asked if she had lost anything. Cynthia had quickly introduced herself and enquired of his number. From then on, everything began to change drastically for her.

Her luck began to change and everything came her way. She was often complimented for her designs, which was often done in a careless way. She even started to go out with Francis.

However, she started to have nightmares every now and then. She thought nothing of it and dismissed it as stress from work. Then one day, unexpectedly, she had a weird encounter. She saw an old woman carrying a stick, which she supposed to be a magic wand as seen in fairy tales. Out of the blue, she saw lights flickering and the old lady rising to the air. She was intrigued by what she saw, but deep in her heart, she was aghast. Then, the old woman stared hard at Cynthia in her eyes with her cold, yet blue eyes. Cynthia was startled and had her heart in her mouth. The old woman grumbled in a warm tone, “Fret not, I am a fairy, I will not harm you. I just want to tell you that your sweetheart had already appeared…”

Cynthia was not sure what had happened next but when she awoke, she saw Francis and found herself in a totally unfamiliar place. She was wondering what had happened. Yes, she remembered the fairy but could not make out whether it was a dream or a real thing that happened. She wanted to ask Francis but decided not to.

After considering what the fairy said for a long time, she decided to marry Francis who had proposed to her. However, she was urged not to do so by fellow colleague, Henry, who had admired her for a long time. She thought that Henry was just jealous and not at all truthful, thus, she ignored his admonition. Henry had long liked her and had made it clear to Cynthia, but she was influenced by the fact that Henry was one who was not serious.
Unhappy over this, Henry went to a bar to drink to drown his sorrows. Coincidentally, he spotted Francis and was about to approach him when he saw a woman getting very intimate with Francis. He was infuriated but could not make up his mind whether to tell Cynthia, as he feared that Cynthia might take it too hard. He insisted on being truthful and caring to Cynthia and he did not want her to be cheated. He telephoned her and alerted her about it. Initially, she was not convinced but after much persuasion, she came. On her entrance to the bar, she saw Francis getting cosy with a woman. Henry spotted her entry but there was no need for words. She poured the beer over Francis and slapped him before walking out.

Henry ran and chased her, afraid that something would happen to her. He held her by the shoulder and said, “Cynthia, I know you are very upset, but I meant well when I told you about Francis.”

“I know but I am really cheated by a man I had trusted fully”, Cynthia replied, frustrated. “Please, it is impossible between us, stop it, Henry”.

“Believe me, Cynthia, I am serious when I said I like you”, Henry explained, “I would do anything for you to be happy and that includes killing myself.”

Cynthia was touched but she was not assured over something, which she did not know how to voice out. That night, the fairy came again and this time, decided to help Cynthia with her doubts. Cynthia voiced out the insecurities she felt and the fairy used her wits and magic to get to work. It was all planned out.

The next day, the fairy went to look for Henry and warned him sternly that a witch kidnapped Cynthia and that Cynthia would die. Henry was frustrated. He was not going to lose his loved one like that. Hence, he asked for ways to rescue her. The witch said solemnly, “You must sacrifice yourself in exchange for her.”

Henry said without hesitation, “No problem, I would brave fire and brimstone for her.”

The fairy smiled and told him, “You have passed the test of true love, good lucks to you and Cynthia.

After that, the fairy disappeared and Cynthia appeared. She ran to him and hugged him. She was too elated and relieved over his reply. There was no need for explanation. They understood it. They had overcome obstacles to be together. They married and lived happily after.
